commercial street: Wangfujing Dajie is a bustling
pedestrian shopping mall and a place where old and new blend
perfectly. As one of the oldest shopping streets in Beijing,
Wangfujing features many Time Honored Brand stores, most of
which are more than 100 years old. World renown brands, fantastic
shops and restaurants, bookstores and an old, refurbished
western -style church epitomize modern Beijing. In the early
evening, check out the snack street or eat street that can
be found on the north side of Donghuamen Dajie, east of Wangfujing
Dajie.
Transport: take subway line 1 and get off at Wangfujing Station
or subway line 5 and get off at Dongdan Station
Xidian Street:
The Xidan Commercial Area, off Xi Changan Jie, offers a wide
range of shopping options. Xidan has four big shopping centers
(the Chung-Yo Shopping Center, Xidian Shopping Center, Grand
pacific and Maison Mode) and Beijing biggest book store, the
Beijing Books Building (see its excellent imported books section
in the basement area).
Transport: Take Subway line 1 and get off at Xidian Station
Hongqiao
Pearl Market: The Pearl Market is in the permanent
building at the northeast side of Tiantan Park (Temple of
Heaven)t, the store offers the enthusiastic shopper more than
they could wish for. Fill your basket full with pearls, bespoke
jewellery, jade, arts and crafts, antiques and clothing.

Silk
Street: Synonymous with a visit to the city,
the old Silk Street was a treat of all treats for bargain-hunting
tourists. Today, development in the area has made way for
biggest and brighter tings and one of those is the new Silk
Street, a composite of the traders and wares of the old alley
now spread out on three floors of this comfortable, safe new
building on Jianguomenwai Dajie, Beijing main drag.
As before, the Silk Street offers great values on fine cashmere
and silk of all types and designer labels are available at
knock down prices. The Silk Street keeps respectable hours,
so beat the rush and get there early. Nearly shopping malls
offer plenty of places to rest from our busy day activities
where you can sip designer coffee or catch a quick bite at
any one of the Chinese or western restaurants in the area.

Yashow
Market: Also of interest to bargain hunters
in Beijing, the Yashow Market is a big draw for the tourist
with some bucks to spend and some serious shopping to do.
Centrally located, Yashow is surrounded by the bars, restaurants
and caf¨¦s of the Sanlitun arer, the most popular eating and
drinking area for tourists in the city, which makes extended
bouts of shopping even easier.
The market itself offers every imaginable article of clothing.
If it on the market, Yashow will have it or a version of it
at the very least. Try shoes on the ground floor, custom-fitted
suits on the third, and fashion clothes for young and old
on the floors in between. Also on the lower ground floor,
luggage and hats add variety to the shopping experience

Beijing
Curio City: Asia biggest curio arts and crafts
trade center. The Beijing Curio City is a four-storey complex
that houses scores of kitsch and curio shops and a few furniture
vendors. The market specializes in antique pottery, paintings
from China and foreign courtiers, jade ware, bone carvings,
antique furniture, antique carpets, antique timepieces, pearls
and jade. Many of the dealers are themselves connoisseurs
and curio collectors.

Gaobeidian
Classic Furniture Market: Since September
2004, Beijing largest antique and imitation Chinese furniture
market. Old furniture collected from Shanxi and Hebei provinces
and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region can be found here.

Panjiayuan Market:known locally as the Dirt
Market (or Sunday Market), this is the place for antiques,
arts and crafts and old-style furniture. A fascinating once-in-a-lifetime
shopping opportunity, don’t forget to haggle! Authentic,
dusty, filled with curios, humorous local characters, bustle
and noise! Keep a close watch on personal belongings as it
can get pretty crowded.

Transport: take Subway line 1 and get off at Guomao, then
take a taxi about 15 yuan. Also can take subway line 10 which
will be running at July 2008 and get off at Jinsong Station.
