Plane
Shanghai has two airports. Pudong Airport (airport code
PVG) has an average of 560 incoming and departing fights
a day, and has fights connecting to 73 international and
62 national cities. Hongqiao Airport (airport code SHA)
has an average of 540 arriving and departing flights per
day. The name of the airport should be clearly printed
on you plane ticket. When flying out of Shanghai, be sure
that you are going to the correct airport or you could
miss your flight. If you plan on changing planes in Shanghai
make sure that your incoming and departing flights are
leaving from the same airport; otherwise, leave yourself
plenty of time to switch airports between flights.
Pudong
International Airport
There are airport busses running to Pudong Airport
from the central Shanghai and from certain major
hotels. You can also take subway line number two
to the Longyang Lu stop and transfer onto the Shanghai
Maglev Train that runs daily from 7 am to 9 pm.
Trains leave every fifteen minutes and arrive at
the airport in just seven minutes. Tickets are 50
RMB each, and cost 40 RMB when you show a valid
airport ticket of same-day departure. A 30 minute
cab ride to the airport can cost up to 80 RMB, but
it remains a good option if you can split the fare
between a few people. Pudong Airport also has a
long distance bus running to and from Hangzhou,
Nanjing, Wuxi, and Suzhou.
Hongqiao
International Airport
Located about 13 kilometers from the city center,
it costs about 40 RMB to take a taxi from central
Shanghai. If you plan on going to the airport during
the morning and evening rush hours, than you would
be wise to first take the subway number two line
to the Jiangsu Lu station or lines 3 or 4 to the
Yan'an station, before switching over to a taxi
for the final stretch of the journey. Hongqiao Airport
also has long distance busses running to and from
Hangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou, and Wuxi.
